Oh Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad
M.R. James’s Gothic ghost story tells the tale of a mild-mannered Cambridge University Professor, Mr. Parkins, who goes off to the seaside town of Burnstow for a golfing vacation. A colleague has asked him to take a look at the ruins of a Templar preceptory, which are reported to be just up the shore from Professor Parkins’s hotel. While examining the site for it potential archeological worth, he happens to come across an ancient relic, perhaps a whistle,  with two mysterious phrases engraved upon its exterior. One is indecipherable, the other appears to read, “Who is this who is coming”. And thus his idyllic vacation turns into a supernatural nightmare. Little does he realize that blowing on that little piece of ancient bronze will unleash a series of events that bring him to the brink of madness and death.
