A Pair of Silk Stockings by Kate Chopin – Mrs. Sommers is a mother with young children who feels stuck in her life, though financially she had seen better times. She appears to become a victim of modern consumerism; however, part of her feels empowered by this money and is choosing to act upon the dreamy memories of her past in order to temporarily experience freedom.
