Invictus, by William Ernest Henley
Read by Xe Sands
Oh this piece. You know, until this week, I don’t think I’d read the entire thing. Ridiculous – an English major skipping out with a degree without having read it or memorized.
The message feels very timely. I feel a building determination about this year, a breaking point between being shunted around by whatever the year has in store and deciding to own it instead, to steer this ship and be responsible for the outcome.
I’m ready to steer, consequences be damned. You?

Tom Jones, Book XII, Chapter 2, by Henry Fielding
Read by Mark Turetsky
Book 12 Chapter 2 of Tom Jones.
This is part of an ongoing project in which I will record and post one chapter per week of Henry Fielding’s Tom Jones over the course of four years.
This chapter brings us Squire Western, hot on the heels of Sophia and Tom Jones. Of course, at this point, the spring is starting to come in, and Western’s thoughts turn from hunting his daughter to hunting small animals. After meeting up with another likeminded squire, Western decides to give up on his pursuit of Sophia in order to return home, since he doesn’t know where Sophia is going.
