But first, a note from Xe…

Let’s back up a sec. How did this all come about? People frequently ask me why I decided to do this crazy thing. I mean, over 40 narrators and 60 pieces? With our collective work schedules? Are we certifiable? No…but we are passionate about what we do. This project came from a strong two-fold desire: to give something back to listeners for well, listening, because their listening allows me to do something I love more than anything I’ve ever done; and to offer narrators a way to share something that truly moved them with listeners. When I approached a group of colleagues in the fall of 2012, the response was so positive, so generous…and when Karen White made the excellent suggestion that we also use this as a platform to support a worthy cause, the project began to truly coalesce.

Now in its second year, we’ve broadened our literary focus to incorporate current works of fiction that move us, as well as continued to incorporate those classics that remain personal favorites. So accept this as a “Thank you!” for all you give to us when you listen, when you join us on a collective journey. Then I hope you will consider supporting the efforts of ProLiteracy by purchasing the full compilation from Tantor Media.

Full collection is available for download via Tantor Media, If link isn’t live, check back on 6/1. As a special promotion, the collection will be available at special pricing of $9.99 through 6/30, in celebration of June Is Audiobook Month.

The Lost One

“A “live-oaker” employed on the St. John’s River, in East Florida, left his cabin, situated on the banks of that stream, and, with his axe on his shoulder, proceeded towards the swamp in which he had several times before plied his trade of felling and squaring the giant trees 322 that afford the most valuable timber for naval architecture and other purposes.” …such begins Audubon’s relaying of this account of a traveler who was lost in the woods for over a month.
